Silos and Hoppers for storage

Prevent contamination of the Powder with our Jumbo Bag Dumping Station

SILO / HOPPER

Silos are specialized structures designed to store large amounts of bulk materials. They are widely utilized in a variety of industries, including pharma, battery, chemicals, food industry, etc. The major function of silos is to store and safeguard materials, ensuring a steady supply for the production process. Additionally, silos make it easy to discharge materials (such as powders, granules & bulk solids) using gravity, eliminating the need for additional equipment. This helps reduce maintenance and clearance requirements.

Whereas a hopper is a container or funnel-shaped equipment that is often used in the handling and storage of powders and materials. It is designed to preserve and control the discharge of bulk materials such as grains, powders, granules, and other particulate solids. Hoppers work in a variety of industries, including chemicals, batteries, food processing, etc.

Silo
    1. Storage: Hopper Silo generally serve to store bulk materials. Their significance comes from providing a consistent supply of raw materials to the manufacturing process. Silos are preferred for long-term storage, while hoppers are excellent for short-term storage and efficient material discharge.
    2. Discharge: Hoppers are designed with features to help materials flow smoothly and discharge efficiently, while silos are designed to store materials for a long period of time.
    3. Variable design and diameter: Silos are available in several shapes and sizes, and they are supported by simple discharge equipment such as air sweep nozzles, bin activators, cross feeders, and vibrators, each of which are material-specific properties.

Discharging systems such as air sweep nozzles are commonly used to ease the flow of powders that tend to become compact or sticky. By introducing controlled bursts of compressed air into the silos & hoppers, they help break up bridged or stagnant material, allowing it to flow smoothly through discharge openings. This technology prevents downtime and minimizes manual intervention.

Features of Silos

  • Provides effective storage.
  • Silos protect materials from environmental factors like excess heat, air, moisture and microbial contamination while preserving their quality.
  • Provides accurate inventory management and production planning.
  • Customizable to industry specific needs and material specifications.

Benefits of hoppers

  • Prevent disruptions by ensuring precise and controlled material discharge.
  • Handle a variety of bulk materials for a diverse range of applications.
  • Allow for simple access and cleaning, reducing downtime during maintenance.
  • Controlled discharge lowers material spillage, hence improving worker safety.
  • Easily integrable into material handling systems.

Have any Question?

Silos often have sealing systems and controlled environments that minimize exposure to moisture and air, which can lead to material degradation.

Safety precautions include proper ventilation, equipment maintenance, regular inspections, and employee training to prevent accidents or silo collapses.

Materials can be discharged from silos using various methods, including gravity flow, augers, conveyors, and pneumatic systems, depending on the material’s characteristics.

Proper hopper design includes considerations such as hopper angle, wall friction, and outlet size to prevent issues like ratholing or bridging.

Silos and hoppers offer efficient and organized storage of bulk materials, preventing contamination and minimizing wastage. They enable controlled material discharge, ensuring a consistent flow for production processes

Yes, silo and hopper designs can be customized to suit specific materials, industries, and space constraints. Customization ensures optimal performance and efficiency for your storage needs.
